Welcome to Newshound Academy

Newshound Academy is a professional training hub for the modern media world - where media, technology and human behaviour intersect.

We train journalists, communicators, educators, organisations - and engaged citizens - to understand not just how media works, but how it shapes perception, trust and decision-making in a rapidly changing information environment.

Drawing on real-world reporting, media practice and emerging technologies, Newshound Academy offers practical, ethical and human-centred training for anyone who wants to navigate today’s media landscape with clarity, confidence and responsibility.

Short Learning Programmes

Our short learning programmes are designed for professionals who need practical, up-to-date media skills without committing to long academic courses. Each programme is focused, modular, and grounded in real-world media environments.

Courses range from media literacy, information warfare, and digital verification to interviewing, narrative framing, and understanding how modern news ecosystems operate under pressure.

Programmes are offered online and in hybrid formats, making them accessible globally, and are regularly updated to reflect shifts in technology, geopolitics, and media practice.

These programmes are built for people working inside the media world - and for those whose work is shaped by it.

Newshound Academy's Professional Development Programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and the real demands of the media industry.

Built around practical exposure, ethical grounding and real-world insight, the programme reflects how media actually works - not how it’s described in textbooks.

Structured learnership opportunities will be announced as the Academy expands its training offerings.

Media Mavericks Masterclass Series

The Media Mavericks Masterclass Series brings together experienced journalists, media practitioners and subject-matter experts to unpack how power, technology and human behaviour shape the media landscape.

These sessions go beyond skills training - they explore influence, ethics, credibility and responsibility in an age of rapid technological change, AI disruption and information overload. Designed for professionals who want depth, not noise.

Fellowship

The Newshound Academy Fellowship is a selective opportunity designed for emerging and mid career media professionals who want to deepen their understanding of media, power, and responsibility in a rapidly changing information environment.

Fellowships will combine mentorship, real world insight, and practical learning drawing on frontline journalism, media ethics, and evolving technology.

Fellowship opportunities will be announced periodically and are offered by application or invitation only.

Academic Direction & Facilitation

Newshound Academy is founded and academically directed by Paula Slier, an international journalist and media specialist with decades of frontline reporting experience across conflict zones, global newsrooms, and complex information environments.

All programmes are designed and curated under her academic and professional direction, drawing on real-world journalism, media ethics, information warfare, and the study of how media shapes power, perception, and behaviour.

Guest experts and facilitators are engaged selectively, per programme, to ensure depth, relevance, and independence - always aligned with the Academy's core standards of clarity, credibility, and responsibility.
